The Kurka 6, a dedicated centre-channel speaker, is the top half of the Kantu 6 and so shares its highest quality components to give the same extraordinary sound for a top-quality surround-sound system. Mounted horizontally it also has the ideal configuration for best sound dispersion, according to Floyd O Toole's new book "Sound Reproduction - Loudspeakers & Rooms". Legend's longest running loudspeaker, the Kantu, has just been upgraded to series 6 status as a true 3-way loudspeaker with a dedicated 100mm midrange unit covering the critical range from 250 Hz to 3kHz to give a more natural mid-band and lower treble. Editor of Australian Hi-Fi Greg Borrowman praised its "superbly balanced sound" with an ability to reproduce not only fine details within the mix but also the overall atmosphere of the recording. In 2009 we have added to the range the Joey 6 SE and Kama 6 SE (Special Editions) which are identical to the standard versions except for a much more expensive bass-midrange unit that adds more openness to the upper mid-band. In defence of conventional loudspeakers - the second half of which was published in Audio & Video Lifestyle magazine August 2007.
Describing his experiences with Legend's DEQX Big Reds in the Esoterica section of Australian Hifi July 2008, David said "The Big Reds lived up to their reviews (and) easily outperformed other speakers I auditioned .... This is a superb system. The music really comes alive ....". For the whole article please click here.
Reviewing the Kama 6s, editor of 'Audio & Video Lifestyle' magazine Nic Tatham enthused "The twin 130 mm drivers generate generous bass, which is also tight and tuneful ... the treble and midrange offer outstanding detail and transparancy ... while dynamics remain superbly handled ....(and they) do so in a coherent and seemless manner, allowing the tracks to flow. These aren't loudspeakers that you can easily pidgeonhole; they're equally at home with a big orchestral piece as grungy rock. Solo piano .... is one of the hardest instruments to faithfully replicate. The piano sounded as though it was being brought to life....(and) tremendously emotional on the Legends, just as it should do." At the annual Sound & Image/Australian Hifi magazines' awards presentation in Sydney, Legend's Acoustics Kumbar Wirri (Big Red) won the prestigious Best Stereo Loudspeakers over $2500 award for 2008. Runners-up were the Dali Concept 10, MartinLogan Vantage and Whatmough P33 loudspeakers. Presenting it to Dr Rod the judges said the Big Reds won the top award "for a combination of high technology – a full DEQX EQ system – and simply superb sound, not to mention being Australian-made.”
For more details of the Kumbar Wirri please click here.
"Passively configured, Legend Acoustics' Kumbar Wirri loudspeakers are superb....... Invoking the active (DEQX) route transforms the Kumbar Wirris into more extroverted performers that pull no punches …….. quality recordings present the listener with a dynamic and highly detailed reality-approaching facsimile of live music that can sometimes startle.......Graph 3 shows…. the Kumbar Wirri's response is phenomenally flat. Indeed this is the best and flattest response I've seen from any commercial loudspeaker design." For the full review see Australian Hi-Fi July/August 2007.
The May meeting of ASoN (Audio Society of NSW) featured Legend's new flagship loudspeaker, the Kumbar Wirri (Big Red). Their ASoN June Newsletter concluded "The Big Red 'compact' high performance speakers were great. In terms of power to weight/size ratio they were superb."
"We purchased a pair of Kantu 4s from Carlton Audio Visual last year, as the first stage of an ongoing upgrade to our stereo system. We are both professional musicians (a Major Symphony Orchestra) and we were immediately bowled over by your speakers’ natural sound. That they clearly out-performed any other speaker we auditioned goes without saying, as we didn’t hesitate to buy them despite their being significantly beyond our initial budget. Since then, we have not regretted our decision for a minute."

In the Audiophile Loudspeaker of the Year category of the 2005 Sound & Image awards, Legend’s Legend's Kurre 4s have been “Highly Commended”. Other winners in this category were Revel’s Ultima Salon ($45,000) and B&W’s 800Ds ($35,000). With a SRP ($2,999) of less than a tenth, the Kurre 4s are “punching well above their weight” as world-class speakers.
A full review of the Kurre 4s in Australian Hifi magazine says:
"... (the Kurre 4s) set a new benchmark for small monitor loudspeakers .... they sound magic! I actually thought long and hard about using this particular word, but after listening and re-listening to the Kurre 4s, I decided that it was entirely appropriate ..... a full, rich and incredibly dynamic sound that was insanely detailed .... through the Kurres I discovered nuances that had previously eluded me .... I was transfixed by the speed of the Kurres and their lovely atmospherics...... When you go to audition Legend's new Kurre 4s - which I sincerely hope and recommend you do - you'll find you're not so much `listening' to them as 'experiencing' them. Get ready for the experience of a lifetime."
