Kantu reference monitors
The Kantu loudspeakers are elegant, world-class instruments designed and built in Australia to give you maximum enjoyment when you listen to your music or watch home movies. They cover the full range of music frequencies, from very deep bass to sparkling highs and have the fast, open sound that makes all Legend loudspeakers so famous.

As described by the Editor of "Australian HiFi" in his review of the original Kantus "I found them to be very revealing and highly musical loudspeakers. Bass performance was fast and precise .... the midrange makes listening a sheer pleasure .... high frequencies are wonderful and airy....".
Since this review the Kantus have been further improved. The drivers have been upgraded to give extra efficiency, power and effortlessness. Further refinement has been produced by improved internal cabinet bracing, profiling and damping plus even higher quality electronic components for the crosovers. Many believe it is one of the best loudspeakers they have ever heard regardless of price - 'The Age' Green Guide 19-8-04 and 'Daily Telegraph Magazine "Connect" Nov-04.
In February 2002 a customer from Katoomba NSW wrote: "I've found your Kantu 2 speakers simply superb. They sound so good with such a wide variety of music; from 50s rock and roll to electronic music; from punk to string quartet. I'm delighted with them. Thanks." See also our other testimonials.
"The Legend Kantu 4s absolutely flattered my system. It was almost like I'd traded my CD player in for a $20.000 replacement ... they excited me and made me want to play album after album. Even old favourites sounded as though I was approaching them for the first time." AVL magazine Feb 05. full review
The Kantu 6s are even better! They are now a true 3-way loudspeaker with a dedicated 100mm Audax midrange unit covering the critical range from 250 Hz to 3kHz to give a more natural mid-band & lower treble. The twin Scanspeak 8545 drivers have been retained for their superb bass performance while the tweeter is a new Seas soft-domed unit giving a beautifully relaxed upper treble.
In his review in Australian Hi-Fi May 2009 Editor Greg Borrowman praised its "superbly balanced sound":
"The Messenger (Matt Gow and the Dead Leaves) ... (demos) the myriad of virtues of the Kantu 6, from the way the speakers reproduce the crisply recorded percussion (especially that kick drum), through the sounds of the various acoustic guitars and the pedal steel, right down to the piercing harmonica."
"In Red Rider's Drown in Colour there's lots of frenetic bass energy ... and the detailing revealed by the Kantu 6 speaker is exceptional .... (while) thanks to the dedicated mid-range driver, the vocal line always punches through."
"... on Teldec's 100% Beethoven when the DSO muster its considerable forces .... the Kantus deliver not only the power of the orchestra but also the underlying atmosphere of the orchestra itself."
"For me, no audition is complete without finding how the speakers handle solo piano and I find Glenn Gould's recordings perfect for this .... The Kantu 6s delivered all the complexity beautifully, while at the same time revealing the full rich sound of the piano, and not some shadowy facsimile of it."
Over successive version of the Kantus there have been significant improvement in the drivers as materials technology has progressed, leading to improved cone break-up with lower distortion of the sound output. This is particularly true of the Kantu 7. The new mid-range unit has an Aluminium sandwhich cone that is very light, giving very fast response, but is also very strong, giving very low break-up distortion. The resultant mid-band sound is incredibly life-like.
The Kantu 7 has a new bass unit also made from very strong Aluminium alloy. Together with excellent motor and suspension systems, the ensuing very low distortion allows the listener to hear tonal structure in bass notes, again resulting in greater realism of the reproduced music.
Only the excellent soft-domed tweeter has been retained from the Kantu 6 to ensure the treble is crystal-clear and free from grain & hardness.
