    LEGEND TIKANDI GRANDE Be
"......a separate mid-treble unit sitting on top of a substantial subwoofer acting as a stand for the satellite, my favourite combination! A total of five drivers, a tweeter, a midrange, a mid-bass and two 12" woofers. The cabinets have no parallel faces, requiring an expert joiner and accurate CNC machinery to achieve this level of craftsmanship. We are in Jean-Paul Guy territory here of Focal Grande Utopia Be fame - funny the resemblance of names on opposite ends of the Planet. What I heard confirmed my theoretical assessment of these speakers: extremely speedy and accurate, delivering extremely tight bass in a visually attractive and not too intrusive cabinet."

Jean-Marie Liere, Industry Consultant, Melbourne Hi-Fi Show

ABOUT AS GOOD AS IT GETS ....

“Tikandi” is an indigenous Australian word meaning “live”. It has been  chosen because we believe our top-of-the range loudspeaker systems will enable you to enjoy the sound of live music in your home!

The Tikandi Grande Be builds on its superb smaller sibling, the Tikandi Be, and takes the Tikandi loudspeaker system to an even higher level. One important change has been to add a dedicated 7″ driver to reproduce in more detail the upper-bass/lower midrange where much of the ‘warmth’ of music occurs.

It has also allowed the sub/bass units to be dedicated more to lower bass. The size of sub/bass units has been increased to 12″ so that they can go even deeper & to higher sound levels while being in sealed enclosures and directly connected to a high powered amp gives an extremely tight fast sound. And as in the Tikandi Be, having 2 of them on opposite sides of the cabinet means the overall force on the cabinet is cancelled, reducing cabinet movement & vibration.

Most importantly adding the 7” upper-bass/lower midrange driver has enabled us to use a smaller more dedicated unit for the vital midrange frequencies. This 2″ midrange unit is made from high strength Mg alloy coated on each side with very hard ceramic so that it remains pistonic well above its crossover point. It results in extraordinarily low distortion through the vital midband region, letting these vital frequencies to come through crystal clear & without the hardness or muddle of most loudspeakers in this region.

We have again used the beryllium tweeter recently introduced in the Tikandi Be. Beryllium is one of the lightest and strongest materials for tweeter domes, allowing them to remain free of distortion-producing breakup to well above human hearing, so giving them an even clearer top end. These tweeters also have a very sophisticated magnet/voice coil/suspension structures that produces lower distortion in the lower treble.

Channeling the correct frequencies to each of the 4 drivers per speaker is done by 2 DEQX pre-amp processors that provide active crossovers in the digital domain: one processor is dedicated to the bass, mid, treble and the other for the sub-woofers. The DEQX processors eliminate errors in phase, timing and frequency-response – the Achilles heel of conventional loudspeaker designs and the factors that prevent the ultimate in acoustic reality.

By providing steep linear-phase crossovers, the processor reduces crossover distortion and excessive midrange & tweeter driver excursion, allowing higher and less congested output levels. In addition, the inevitable small errors of each driver are precisely measured & compensated by DEQX’s patented, low-latency, inverse FIR filtering, producing almost unprecedented accuracy of plus/minus 0.5dB – compared to the typical high-end speaker performance of plus/minus 3dB accuracy.

The DEQX processor preamp also allows you to measure and correct your room’s acoustic problems including bass frequency resonance. Uncorrected, these resonances result in unnatural bass tonal balance and mask our ability to hear detail across the full spectrum.

Further, the processor’s remote control provides post-DAC analogue volume control of all output channels as well as the selection of 4 input sources, 2 analog and 2 digital, eliminating the need for a pre-amplifier. Please see DEQX for more information.

Notwithstanding its ground-breaking technology producing unprecedented accuracy and low distortion, the Tikandi Grande Be loudspeakers have been designed by people at obsessed with musical enjoyment. After listening to a wide range of music, we believe that the name “Tikandi” is entirely appropriate – these speakers arouse the emotional response of being there at a “live” performance with their effortlessness and very low distortion & fidelity to your music.

The Tikandi Grande Be loudspeakers were judged amongst the best sounds at the Melbourne Hi-Fi Show in October 2014. For an interview with Ed Kramer, Editor of Esoterica, at the Melbourne Show on the development of the Tikandi Grande Be speakers please click link below:.
