Australia's leading loudspeaker manufacturer
Legend Acoustics' mission is to make world-class loudspeakers, both in build and sound quality, so that you can experience maximum and long-lasting emotional enjoyment from your music and home theatre.
Our cabinets are made in Australia by a cabinet-maker who has long practice as well as innovative manufacturing techniques. Our drivers are carefully sourced from leading manufacturers before extensive modification by us. And our crossovers employ the finest electronic components from around the world. Finally each loudspeaker is assembled in Australia at a single work-station and rigorously tested both by listening and by computer-controlled measurements.
But world-class loudspeakers require designing a whole that is more than the sum of the parts. Achieving such synergy requires, firstly, a passion for what live music really sounds like and, secondly, a deep understanding of loudspeaker design that comes from long experience and comprehensive knowledge of the physics involved.
Thus we create in Australia the famous "fast, open, natural sound" of Legend loudspeakers. They enable you to hear your music & home theatre through a "clear open window" as it was recorded and not through a layer of hard distortion - or with 3 tea-spoons of sweetener added to everything! Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” will sound raucous; and Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” ephemeral. Your emotional enjoyment will depend only on the content and quality of your CDs, DVDs and other sources. Please read our LATEST NEWS below and explore the rest of our website to find out more.

Big Red 2s launched at CAV
A purely passive version 2 of Legend's award-winning Big Red loudspeaker was launched at Carlton Audio Visual in Melbourne on 28 May 2009. The Big Red 2s build on our learnings from the Tikandi digitally-active loudspeakers, using the same all-tapered cabinets for improved sound-quality (as well as improved aesthetics) but some new drivers. For more details please click here or phone CAV on (03) 9639 2737 for an audition.
Kantu 6 review
Legend's longest running loudspeaker, the Kantu, has just been upgraded to series 6 status as a true 3-way loudspeaker with a dedicated 100mm midrange unit covering the critical range from 250 Hz to 3kHz to give a more natural mid-band and lower treble. For more details of the Kantu 6s please click here or user feedback and for a recent review in Australian Hif-fi please click here .
Audition Tikandis today
Our new top-of-range Tikandi ("live") loudspeaker is now ready for your listening pleasure at Pymble Hi-Fi in Sydney (02 9983 9273) and Active Hifi Systems in Melbourne. They have been set-up with each driver, including all four 10" bass-drivers, connected to a separate amplifier module for greater speed & control. The results are outstanding, with the ability to enjoy even at high sound levels the inner structure of complex music across the whole frequency range, from 20 Hz to 25 Khz, across which the response is also very flat for accurate tonal rendition - like "live". And they look great too! Take along your favourite music to have a mind-altering demonstration. For more details of the Tikandis please click here , Tikandi User's Manual or user feedback.
Joey 6 SEs launched
In 2009 we have added to the range the Joey 6 SE (Special Edition) which is identical to the award-winning Joey 6s except for a much more expensive bass-midrange unit that adds more openness to the upper mid-band. For more details of the Joeys please click here.
Tikandi launched at Rocky Mountain Audiofest
The Tikandi ('live') speaker system was launched with DEQX at one of the world's premier hifi shows, the Rocky Mountain Audiofest in Denver USA in early October 2008 - see photo.
A typical comment was: "During RMAF 2008 I listened to two great sounding systems in the Hyatt Thunderpass Room. The large system was a tri-amped Acoustic Zen Maestro (US$35k) featuring six Halco amps (~US$250k) orchestrated by a DEQX HDP3 speaker/room calibration processor(US$5k). The second much smaller system (the Tikandi AU$25k total including DEQX & amps)) was designed specifically for the DEQX processor by Legend Acoustics."

Esoterica lauds Big Reds
Describing his experiences with Legend's DEQX Big Reds in the Esoterica section of Australian Hifi July 2008, David said "The Big Reds lived up to their reviews (and) easily outperformed other speakers I auditioned .... This is a superb system. The music really comes alive ....". For the whole article please click here.
Kama 6 review
Reviewing the Kama 6s, editor of 'Audio & Video Lifestyle' magazine Nic Tatham enthused "The twin 130 mm drivers generate generous bass, which is also tight and tuneful ... the treble and midrange offer outstanding detail and transparancy ... while dynamics remain superbly handled ....(and they) do so in a coherent and seemless manner, allowing the tracks to flow. These aren't loudspeakers that you can easily pidgeonhole; they're equally at home with a big orchestral piece as grungy rock. Solo piano .... is one of the hardest instruments to faithfully replicate. The piano sounded as though it was being brought to life....(and) tremendously emotional on the Legends, just as it should do." Kumbar Wirri (Big Red) Oz Hi-fi review
"Passively configured, Legend Acoustics' Kumbar Wirri loudspeakers are superb....... Invoking the active (DEQX) route transforms the Kumbar Wirris into more extroverted performers that pull no punches …….. quality recordings present the listener with a dynamic and highly detailed reality-approaching facsimile of live music that can sometimes startle.......Graph 3 shows…. the Kumbar Wirri's response is phenomenally flat. Indeed this is the best and flattest response I've seen from any commercial loudspeaker design." For the full review see Australian Hi-Fi July/August 2007.
Kumbar Wirri (Big Red) AsoN review
The May meeting of ASoN (Audio Society of NSW) featured Legend's new flagship loudspeaker, the Kumbar Wirri (Big Red). Their ASoN June Newsletter concluded "The Big Red 'compact' high performance speakers were great. In terms of power to weight/size ratio they were superb."
More happy customers!
"We purchased a pair of Kantu 4s from Carlton Audio Visual last year, as the first stage of an ongoing upgrade to our stereo system. We are both professional musicians (a Major Symphony Orchestra) and we were immediately bowled over by your speakers’ natural sound. That they clearly out-performed any other speaker we auditioned goes without saying, as we didn’t hesitate to buy them despite their being significantly beyond our initial budget. Since then, we have not regretted our decision for a minute."

Kurre 4 award
In the Audiophile Loudspeaker of the Year category of the 2005 Sound & Image awards, Legend’s Legend's Kurre 4s have been “Highly Commended”. Other winners in this category were Revel’s Ultima Salon ($45,000) and B&W’s 800Ds ($35,000). With a SRP ($2,999) of less than a tenth, the Kurre 4s are “punching well above their weight” as world-class speakers.
Kurre 4 review
A full review of the Kurre 4s in Australian Hifi magazine says:
"... (the Kurre 4s) set a new benchmark for small monitor loudspeakers .... they sound magic! I actually thought long and hard about using this particular word, but after listening and re-listening to the Kurre 4s, I decided that it was entirely appropriate ..... a full, rich and incredibly dynamic sound that was insanely detailed .... through the Kurres I discovered nuances that had previously eluded me .... I was transfixed by the speed of the Kurres and their lovely atmospherics...... When you go to audition Legend's new Kurre 4s - which I sincerely hope and recommend you do - you'll find you're not so much `listening' to them as 'experiencing' them. Get ready for the experience of a lifetime."
